A 14-year-old girl from New Jersey who posted over thirty nudie pictures of herself on her Myspace page to impress her boyfriend is facing child pornography distribution charges. This incident poses a few burning questions.
First, at the rate she's going, are charges really necessary? This young lady will clearly be her own worst enemy well into adulthood, and she doesn't need help from a criminal record, which in this case would require her to register as a sex offender. Give her a year or two, and she'll find some way to screw up her life irrevocably anyway, probably with much more lasting consequences than these photos. (For one, the questions won't be the only thing burning, if you know what I mean.)
Additionally, I wonder, is it really distributing child porn if you're the model, photographer, and distributor? It's true that she is a minor, and clearly too young and immature to make a good decision for herself, but... what she did will not hurt anyone nearly as much as she has hurt herself.
