If I read it in an e-mail forward, it must be true... right?

Last night I started getting some text messages forwarded from an old friend from college who is, to put it nicely, a backassed redneck. They don't really bear repeating, because even if I were a bigot, I don't think I'd find them that funny, but they were racist jokes about Obama. The conversation went exactly as follows, which is why there are misspellings:

Me: No more jokes needed. A) I voted for him. B) I'm not a racist. I'm not trying to be rude, just saying.

Him: Sorry. Never would have guessed it being he is a relative of foreign leaders declaring war on us, has terrorist ties, backs illegal immagrants and most importantly dont believe in god.

Me: He is Church of Christ. That's God, right? We are not at war with Kenya, last time I checked, he supports increased border control, and does not have terrorist ties. And since when are you such a devout Christian? Come on, as smart as you are, you need to educate yourself.

Him: Muslem until he "changed to be elected" and actually hes not even black. middle eastren. lets research deeper. And I'm not a weekly christian because its not about that.

Me: He is Kenyan and has never--NEVER-- been Muslim. But I would have voted for him anyway if he were. I am done talking because this is futile for both of us.

Him: Like I said...research. u know I never like 2 argue anyway, especially politics.

Apparently, he doesn't like to read about politics either, nor does he like to leave fantasyland. People like this make me want to break things. The fact that in 2008, the Information Age, someone could still live in oblivion to this great a degree makes me feel that there's just no hope for the South.

There are plenty of perfectly reasonable people who voted for McCain because they truly believed in his policies instead of Obama's. I certainly can respect that. Unfortunately, this guy was not one of them.

Until next time...keep fighting the good fight, everyone.

You ever amazed that we came out so well? Everyday of this election I was!

I'm glad to hear that you put the idiot in his place. Most people from where we are from still can't figure out how to read a book, but will pass along an e-mail of total lies just so their own bigotry feels right to them.

HEY Casey! Haven't seen you in quite a while. I guess you found this through Derrick's?

Yes I did. Both of you have very unique points of view from both sides of the spectrum. I like hearing both of them from time to time.
