Beware of Dumb

Here's a lesson worth learning: if you manufacture a product that contains text, it's best not to outsource it to a non-English speaking country.

Case in point:

I bought a package of these certificates today at Walgreens for $1.99. I saw them and knew that they just had to be mine. There are 20, which is how many students I have, so I am thinking of giving one to each kid as a reminder not to grow up to be an idiot.

My conversation with the cashier was almost as bad as the certificates themselves. I brought all four packages that they had up to the counter, and showed them to the guy, thinking we'd have a laugh. But we didn't.

"Look at these! I want just one of these packages, please. 'Excellence' is misspelled!"

(After studying the certificates for a moment:) "It is?"

"Well...yeah. But I kind of get a kick out of it, so I'll buy one."

"You only want one? What do you want me to do with all these others?"

"I don't know. I just thought... maybe you'd want to see that they're misspelled."

I think I'll go back tomorrow and see if they're back on the shelf.
