Round Rock Cardboard Boat Regatta

If lately I have been writing less, it's because I've been busy building a boat. From cardboard. And I've been painting it to look like a giant bee.

Last weekend was the first-ever Round Rock the Boat Regatta, and my work friends Stephanie I., Stephanie K., and Megan built one and entered.

Ever the joiners, Joel (Megan's fiancee) and Ray built one of their own. Our boat was a rectangular design with a pointed, closed piece on the front (the face of the bee) and a stinger on the end. We added laminating film rolls and two styrofoam balls to make the antennae, and a load of polyeurethane.

Ray and Joel's was smaller and had a v-shaped bottom. They used the blue-purple paint that did not work out well on my bathroom wall to decorate it like... an eggplant. A Fightin' Killa Eggplant, as they were officially registered.

The results: each team took second place for the Fast and Furious Award in our categories (large crew for us/small crew for the guys) for the best time, and our team won the Motion Picture Award for the best theme. The Buzzing Beauties were beaten by the City of Round Rock engineers (fair?)...so we'll be back next year.

Since these boats were made out of Cardboard...does this mean they were christened with fruit boxes instead of champagne bottles?

No, with polyeurethane.
