D is for Victory

First off, I can't claim any part in this victory as I did not manage to get my absentee voting together and take part in this election from my current home in Hungary. This is largely inconsequential since my home state of Texas almost always goes red anyway, and the Democratic candidate for governor lost by eight or nine percentage points, meaning that as usual, my vote would be useless.

I usually adhere to the idea that if you didn't vote, you can't complain. But I am not complaining, I am actually elated and gloating, more or less. I am disappointed that I didn't get it together before leaving the US and couldn't take part in voting, and I am disappointed that Rick Perry was reelected as Texas governor. But the big picture looks so good that I can't be upset.

If you have been under a rock, you might have missed that the Democrats now control the House of Representatives (snap), and as I write this, there are still two undecided seats which could allow either party to have control of the Senate--Montana Senator Burns' seat, and Virginia Senator Allen's seat.

The brand-new firecracker to be the first female Speaker of the House is Nancy Pelosi, a California about whom you just can't help but be excited. I mean, take a look at this picture, which I shamelessly stole from Garret.

Triumphant, no?!

She shares with many of us a loathing for Bush & Co., an opinion that maybe we ought to, perhaps, oh, I don't know, look at leaving Iraq sometime this century. That's enough right there to tell us that things are already looking up.
